Florida HB 1293 (Ch. 2026-143): fraudulent entry of residential dwellings law effective Oct 1
CS/HB 1293, approved by the Governor 2026-06-12 (Chapter 2026-143), effective 2026-10-01: creates a criminal offense for fraudulently entering or taking possession of a residential dwelling and makes such fraudulent entry grounds for a landlord to terminate the rental agreement. Passed the House 110-0 and the Senate 34-0. Note: no 2026 Florida bill capping rent increases became law; the seed's reference to SB 64 and HB 107 as rent-cap bills was wrong (SB 64 concerns medical review committees, HB 107 domestic-violence lease termination; both died 2026-03-13). The viral '30% cap' claim still needs its own sourced myth check.
